לעבוד על "שמיכה בתהליך" – ללמוד את הטכניקה הנחוצה לסיום השמיכה, להכליב את שכבות השמיכה זו לזו, לבחור דוגמא למסגרת, או פשוט לעבוד על השמיכה בסביבה תומכת. לדבר על עבודותייך עם אנשים אחרים ולקבל מהם משוב חיובי והשראה. לקבל עזרה ועצות בעבודות טלאים, ללמוד שיטות עבודה חדשות ומרגשות, לעיין בספרים וחוברות של הסטודיו העוסקים בשמיכות טלאים מסורתיות וגם מודרניות.
